That's what makes us want to do another record. Otherwise, we'd say, 'OK, we've done everything we can do, so why bother even going in again? Many tracks on the album feature harmonica work by Tyler, including Little Walter 's "Temperature" which was played on an episode of the House of Blues Radio Hour which was about the harmonica.
Metacritic gave the album a score of 69 out of based on 12 generally favorable reviews. He called the album a "surprise" in that, even though the album's artwork and title are bad, it marks a return to Aerosmith. The album, to him, proves that Aerosmith can still rock. Johnson which also explored blues influences. He said that Clapton's album was mostly about pain, while Aerosmith's album was about sex and running away from lovers. He also considers Bobo to be a double-tribute album — one tribute to the original musicians and one tribute for s blues-rock bands — and considers the album to be overdone, which is what Aerosmith is good at.

Instead of focusing on top 40 radio pop tunes the bad boys from Boston turn their attention to some classic early RNR and the blues.
Down and dirty, the way it should be, these tunes are all amazing, demonstrating that they still have a trick or two up their sleeves. Dipping into such classics as Eyesight to the Blind, Roadrunner, and You Gotta Move, this album is way better than their last few offerings. Down and dirty, with a extremely tight backing band, Steven Tyler tears it up and shows us that old dogs still know how to rock hard. Honkin' On Bobo is Aerosmith's long-promised "roots" album where they return to their original bluesy sound.
And it exceeds all expectations! As a long time Aerosmith fan who is into both their gritty rocky earlier sound in the 70's and the more commercially pop-orientated sound since the late 80's, hearing this album really made me realize how absent their classic style has been for a long time.
But these songs really bring back the band's original essence. Gone are the radio friendly pop-rock numbers and ballads, and back are the classic amazing guitar riffs by Joe Perry, and Steven Tyler squealing into the microphone just like back in the day.
The cd is made up of mostly covers of blues songs by their original influences but with their own hooks and classic Aerosmith sound and attitude added. The one exception is probably track 7 "The Grind", which sounds kinda on par with Crazy and Cryin'. But even as a ballady number it still fits in well with the blues vibe.
