Since he started recording in the s, he has released over fifty albums, many of them classics. In his youth, he played on street corners for dimes, and would sometimes play in as many as four towns a night. In , he hitchhiked to Memphis, TN, to pursue his music career. Memphis was where every important musician of the South gravitated, and which supported a large musical community where every style of African American music could be found.
In the mids, while B. Two men got into a fight and knocked over a kerosene stove, setting fire to the hall. When he later found out that the fight had been over a woman named Lucille, he decided to give the name to his guitar to remind him never to do a crazy thing like fight over a woman.
Ever since, each one of B. In , B. From the chitlin circuit with its small-town cafes, juke joints, and country dance halls to rock palaces, symphony concert halls, universities, resort hotels and amphitheaters, nationally and internationally, B.
Over the years, B. He borrowed from Blind Lemon Jefferson, T-Bone Walker and others, integrating his precise and complex vocal-like string bends and his left hand vibrato, both of which have become indispensable components of rock guitarist's vocabulary.
His economy, his every-note-counts phrasing, has been a model for thousands of players, from Eric Clapton and George Harrison to Jeff Beck. King: An Interactive Autobiography was released to rave reviews. Also in , B.

Had this disc probably 20 years ago and gave it away. Now I remember why. It was no great shakes to begin with to my ears but sorry, it hasn't exactly aged well. This is definitely a long way from my favorite Clapton and B.
Kind of forced, stale, and by-the-numbers. I'll keep it in my collection this time around, but strictly as a completest. I'm sure it's unlikely to get much play. Like many others, I was skeptical when this was first released. But then, I heard "Come Rain or Come Shine" on the radio, and I was hooked some times, I think it is impossible for someone to do a bad job with this song. The title, "Riding With the King" kinda lets us know who is the Boss here. Clapton and B. There is more than enough to make this a worthwhile purchase.
The instrumental work between them is the best, and their two distinctive styles mesh well together. However, Slow Hands cannot hang when it comes to the vocal aspect of the Blues, and is a tad short in some blues classics. That alone makes this worth the price of a ticket to ride.
This is a fine fine disc. This is something that every blues fan in the world wanted to see. I am not talking abaut this CD only but about the whole Clapton-King concept. Here are two of the most influencial musicians in the guitar world united to show the world the power of the blues. The idea of covering Classic King tunes just makes this CD more appealing to the buyer.
The Song selecction makes every effort to place each guitarrist in a "conversational" playing mood with each other and, somehow, it is intended to show respect to B. King as one of America's master of the blues. As for Clapton, he is probably, along with Stevie Ray Vaughan, the most influencial modern blues player. Not only his work is inspired in the blues but he has transmitted this energy to rock in his many groups and solo projects.
Key to note that this is not the first time that Clapton and King have worked together. This prior interaction makes their playing relationship more solid and the result is stamped on this colecction of tunes. As I mentioned, this record is a must for any blues lover One person found this helpful. Not completely a crossover album, since Clapton is almost as closely associated with the blues as is King.
But the age difference, difference in era, styles and voice types makes this a unique project. Most interestingly is the heavy, "opinionated" musical styles of both artists. At times, there is an ungraceful colliding of voices as beef smacks up against beef. But instead of being uncomfortable and strange, it's like a couple of blues masters jamming together. It's the guitarists who will likely find this album most interesting.
It's almost like master and star student are performing together. They seem to work together as one, yet each incorporating their distinct ideas into the album. Package arrived damaged. Shipped not in protective packaging. Images in this review. King fan. If you're beginning to discover B.
