The difference between this and the standard redbook CD is not subtle. Much smoother and far more revealing. Luck of the Draw got some very lush production with many, many layers of instruments and voices and you will easily hear it all on this recording.

On the song Tangled and Dark there's a passage where Bonnie Raitt kind of does a low growl. I had never heard that before. This is definite ear candy. I had purchased this particular CD several years ago and now suddenly remember just how great it is--Bonnie Raitt rocks on every song and she is simply an amazing musician.

All of the songs are excellent, but I especially like "Good Man, Good Woman" which describes a rocky relationship between a man and a woman at its best, On "I Can't Make You Love Me", she sings with such deep sadness and when you are listening to it, you can really feel the pain of rejection.

If you collect great music like I do, then add this album to your music collection because it is well worth keeping. My favorite Bonnie Raitt CD; very soulful and heartfelt. This is a replacement of the first one I bought when it was first released it finally wore out.

You can't mistake anyone else for Bonnie's unique voice. From gritty blues to sultry love songs, she'll draw you in and keep you awhile. I agree with some of the other reviews that note she isn't a bigger megastar because she has such a broad range of music that she can't be "classified" - thank heaven. I think most true artists fall into the unclassified category. Buy this CD and she will take you on a Slow Ride you'll enjoy for years to come. Another artist you might want to check out is Eva Cassidy; softer, smoother voice, but just as incredible an artist see her on youtube.

This order replaced the same CD which mysteriously disappeared. I loved the CD and just had to replace it. As always Bonnie Raitt never disappoints. Every song tells a story. This added a great album to my collection. Something to Talk About" was the title hit for this ground-breaking album that really established Bonnie as a bankable artist. Also inluded here is the smash hit "I can't make you love me", which is certainly one of the best ballads of the s.

Bonnie has a singular vocal style, and the qualities in her voice make her distinct and unique. She is a terrific musician, and doesn't need a back-up guitarist to make her sound sessions swing.

She is a mainstream artist, and like others such as John Denver or Glen Campbell, really is hard to define in terms of whether she is country, pop, or whatever. She is simply terrific, as is this album, which if you have any horse sense, you will order without delay! See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. This album came out in , and was I think her first solo outing on the coat tails of her highly successful collaboration with John Lee Hooker on his "Healer" album.

The album runs the gamut of emotions, from out and out rockers, to ballads, and in between. The playing is always top drawer, the grooves are impeccable, and the emotional integrity invested into the songwriting is always apparent. All of these things combined make for a very satisfying collection of songs, and a great listening experience every time you drop laser onto shiny disc. One person found this helpful. Paul Brady.
