Verified Purchase. Climax Blues Band is one of most under-rated and under-appreciated bands of all time. Their songs often feature very unique song structure, witness Standing By A River with its tease of the hook and front-loaded instrumental portion before finally arriving at the heart of the song.

One person found this helpful. Late last year, Mole on the Dole came up on my Pandora station rotation. I quickly got hooked on it. Recently I was in search of new to me music to listen to at work and on the road. Both this album and Stamp are great. If you like 70's era Foghat blues, slide guitar and all, give Rich Man and Stamp a shot. I was looking high and low for an affordable CD of this great album for several years. There's an informative liner notes sheet included with info on the band.

It could be me, but if I could only have just one album, this would be it. Not even any of my Led Zeppelin or Rolling Stones albums would make the cut. I have an original LP record of this album that I bought in I don't do or advocate mind altering substance use, but the song "You Make Me Sick" with the sax and guitar solos were mesmerizing!

There would be something wrong with you if you didn't at least tap your foot to "If You Wanna Know", a 50s style song done with period guitar work and rythyms. It's British "skiffle" done with a metal edge. It should be a classic, but the powers that be in radio decided that we should only hear "Couldn't Get It Right" from "Gold Plated", an OK but not great album. As I said, it could just be me. But in my humble opinion, this is the best record ever. If you dropped some good blotter acid, and give this a spin, you'll agree with me.

Haycock went on to record several solo projects, the first of which was the album Total Climax , with his band, Pete Haycock's Climax; this band toured extensively in Europe, including Communist East Germany, and conducted a well-received tour in Australia.

After that, Haycock was asked by his former Climax Blues Band manager, Miles Copeland, to record an instrumental album, Guitar and Son , and the live album Night of the Guitars from the tour of the same name for the I. He also performed on the Night of the Guitars tours, which included Holt on bass, keyboards and occasional vocals.
