I like the music for what it is in these times as well. A creative, sensitive and expressive man who has been a big player in a lot of 60's and forward music Looking back through his career, there is a familiar and heart opening sound and feeling. If you lived through the years and observed the changes this will be like finding an old friend. If you are younger and do not personally know the Life and music resulting from that life, then this is a great introduction to the people, lifestyle and feelings of a time so far away.
This album is criminally overlooked. While it is hard to choose a best, as the term is so subjective, this one is without question the most interesting and groundbreaking. Crosby was writing the greatest songs of his career between and , and this album nine terrific cuts. Jerry Garcia appears on five tracks here and his solos are terrific. There is not a weak song on here, and the album gets better with every listen.
Some very respected music journalists have gone so far as to call this the best album in history. Crosby and friends always put out good solo titled albums and this from long ago is the first.
Now there area many Crosby solos you can have , 2 out this year , I especially recommend the roar of King Biscuit Flower Hour , a document of Crosby's trip back from addiction and jail. Start your trip with this first one though which I have replaced many times! One person found this helpful.
My four stars are only because that there are absolutely no unreleased tracks, or, even extra liner notes, or, modern Crosby interview By jasperg55 on August 1, Images in this review.
The songs on the LP are very typically David Crosby, mellow and acoustic with lots of harmonies. The songs will remind you of his influence on CSN. The only slight issue was the remaster is a bit compressed and not as clear as I would like, not terrible but I'm kind of picky that way. I'll probably get that as I am sure it will be crystal clear and overall the music is good. David Crosby assembled virtually an army of rock royalty to record this album, and it shows.
Definitely some of Crosby's finest work. It was an uncanny feeling, comforting and strange. Around the same time, he experienced his first major loss. She died instantly. Grief-stricken and depressed, Crosby stood at the start of a long spiral that would consume his next two decades. Fifteen years later, he was in prison, almost unrecognizable, the creative spark that had defined him all but dissipated. Crosby seemed to exist only in the past tense. In the beautiful tragic comedy that is classic rock radio, David Crosby is almost never the protagonist.
Once in a while, he takes the lead, but his voice remains most recognizable as the one somewhere in the middle—first in the Byrds, next in CSN, and then in CSNY. Much has been said of his ego—and much of it by Crosby himself—but few artists have been so content to have a legacy defined by the people around them. Surrounded by friends, he was happy. Like sailing, music came naturally to young Crosby.

Oh Yes I Can The Encyclopedia of Popular Music. Rolling Stone. D— . By October of , he was kicked out of the band. Not long after his departure, he linked up with Stills and Nash, and his interest in psychedelic music carried over into CSN's self-titled debut on songs like "Guinnevere" and "Wooden Ships," the latter of which was co-written with Stills and Jefferson Airplane's Paul Kantner and also recorded for the Airplane's album Volunteers and performed by both bands that year at Woodstock.
Croz snuck musical weirdness into each band he was in, but it wasn't until If I Could Only Remember My Name that he was able to indulge his most mind-bending impulses for the length of an entire album. So as much as If I Could Only Remember My Name is indeed a solo album, it's also a supergroup of some of the greatest musicians of the Woodstock generation.
