Verified Purchase. What a theme for a Country Album!!! Well Hank Sr. Plus, Hank Sr. The "Family Tradition" continues. I noticed on the song "Cecil Brown" Hank III mentions that he tried to take the "high road, but it took him straight to hell". So, this in essence makes reference to one of his other albums "Straight to Hell".
On the song "Trashville", you get Billy F. Gibbons of ZZ Top playing electric guitar. Track "Atlantic City" was written by Bruce Springsteen.
Hank III added some more material to the song, where Springsteen's song ends. One person found this helpful. I like "Risin' Outlaw" and Disc One of "Straight to Hell" better for strength of the songs and creativity, but "Lovesick, Broke and Drifting" becomes more enjoyable with each listen.
There are no tracks that just jump out and shake III's talent in your face, as you can find on those other two albums, but none of the 13 tracks are clunkers, either. I hope he doesn't live real life quite as wildly as his songs would indicate Since his professional career is well past a decade long now, it seems unlikely he will become a "star" at the level of his father or grandfather, but I hope I live long enough I'm almost 66 to hear what Hank III is writing and singing about at age He's not quite 40 now.
I think the guy will just get better and better, and since this CD came out eight years ago, his subsequent releases have already proved me right.
He puts out "hillbilly hard rocking country" with an old-fashioned sound but his songs are themed around the perils and poisons and pleasures of modern life. If you liked the writing and vocals you heard from his bloodline, try the youngest Hank too.
Dad and Grandad had different kinds of "it" the thing that hooks the listeners and makes fans and so does Third. Definitely his best "non-explicit lyrics" album and very enjoyable listening. He captures his grand-dad's sound and spirit, while adding some great flare of his own. Its old-style country music, like before they went wimpy, I've had this album since it came out and I still play it often. Gotta add, I was a big fan of Hank Sr.
Never could warm up to the frat boy in between. HANK3 follows in his grand fathers foot steps with this album! Great music-every track. The whole industry needs to have musicians make music like this.
This one woulda made his grandpa proud Twangy mjusic, strong hard country vocals Country radio won't play this stuff these days and that's why real country fans don't listen to 'country' radio these days --unless it's WSM. Love it. I had to replace it. When you call the fm stations in our town and ask for some Hank 3, they say they don't have it. Maybe it is because of his attitude toward them pop Country ,I don't know for sure, but this has to be one of the best CD's I have bought in recent years.
And I have a lot of Cd's. I recommend that everyone call there local FM Country station and demand to hear some Hank 3, you won't be disappointed. And for sure get the CD. Great hank 3 songs. No metal punk stuff just great counrty. See all reviews.
Top reviews from other countries. HW3's voice is very much like his Grandfather's voice and I found the album grew on me.
Report abuse. Very good hillbilly country music from punky Dean Christie What other items do customers buy after viewing this item? Back to top. His band is tops! Old Country, but new! Best band out of the South in a long while! I saw him on the Marty Stewart show! I was so impressed I came to order three Cd's from him. I never do that. I don't regret a penny! Great quality CD. Great quality sound as well. Great country sound, hollow of eye and smelling of cheap liquor.
