See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. I bought this album in and still have it, although heavily scratched. I am really surprised that after over 50 years the songs remains fresh. Much has been said about his short career and sad life but the music stands as a testament to his gift as a singer songwriter.
A very memorable night. For those hearing his music for the first time, don't pay too much attention to the second CD which I assume has been included for historical interest only.
This is a magical record, produced by Paul Simon while Mr. Frank had relocated to England. The most famous tune is "Blues Run The Game", covered quite quickly by several others.
His story is a sad one, but we are happy that he did manage - in a short pause in his misery and unlock in life - to create this masterpiece. A short while after this record came out he suffered writer's block and was on his way to mental illness. Jackson is one of the most unfortunate greats that I have ever heard of in popular music, and I urge everyone to check him out - not because of his misery, but because his first album is so good.
This double album contains all the known recordings of a tragic genius. I had the great fortune to be introduced to his first and only album by a school friend Robert Ede back in I was instantly smitten and am eternally grateful. It is a gem. The words and melodies have not diminished over the years. I was also extremely grateful to have seen him perform in the Angel Ilford in with my friend Pete Smith. We were both mesmerised. It was a wonderful enchanting and intimate evening.
