Verified Purchase. Think JM but more upbeat, more prog and musicianship, more varied and the horns are as hot as Hades on July 4th! Simply a smashing collection of textured songs that will keep you amazed and entertained. I think that once you buy this CD you will also buy "Halfbreed" and "Battle of Northwest Six"cause you will want the whole collection of their songs from the three main albums which make up a slice of music you will find as refreshing as a piece of watermelon on a hot Summer's day.
This album opens with two tracks that are a little more radio oriented than anything on Halfbreed, but that are still excellent tracks.
The rest of the album is more progressive and I think as good as Halfbreed. Certainly these were two great records. Even though I was young when they came out, I don't know how my music friends and I missed these albums. It's exactly the kind of music we were looking for. I am very glad to find them now, it's always nice to find great music that I missed during rock's golden age. Good and fast. One person found this helpful. Not a bad album but I like halfbreed better. Very little guitar from Miller Anderson and guys.
If you like a jazz oriented album with lots of brass trumpets, etc. For me their follow up album halfbreed is kick ass, with great guitar work and great songs. Not quite as good as "Half Breed", but a solid outing with a great few instrumentals and the 60's style singing of a few.
A great addition for my Keef Hartley collection. I'm looking for it on vinyl! This is a fine set of songs. I was lucky enough to be introduced to Keef Hartley Band back in the early s. I have Time is Near in my album collection and have listened to it often. I recently purchased the CD version I am not sure my CD is a reissue, but it probably is as the production quality is pretty good. This is a fine set of songs, mixing rock with jazz think early Chicago.
Good vocal work also. Halfbreed the debut is better but I have loved that vinyl for ever. I had this album back in the day loved it then love it now. Heard it when i was in the Army stationed in Germany. See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. This is the third album from the underrated Keef Hartley Band. This is a classic record full of classy tunes.
The arrangements show a good variation from the urgent to the languorous. The stand out track has to be the title track - a good, solid workout for all concerned with a great rhythm and a catchy lyric.
This is another excellent release from Esoteric. The sound has been nicely remastered and restored, and sounds sharp and clean on my stereo. There is a booklet with some interesting notes from Hartley about the recording of this album. There are also a few photographs.
Unlike other releases there are no extras in the form of contemporary singles, mainly because there weren't any, so this really is not a problem! All in all a great release. I've had a few discs from Esoteric now, and am consistently impressed with the high standards of their releases. All in all a 5 star release of 5 star music.
Those who grew up at the time when Keef Hartley was prominent in the 70's and listened to the In Concert programmes on Radio 2 on a Saturday evening, could immerse themselves in these marvellous tracks.
