Despite Morrison's conviction and the fallout from their appearance in New Orleans, The Doors set out to reclaim their status as a premier act with L. Woman in Despite a comparatively low Billboard chart peak at No. Woman contained two Top 20 hits and went on to be their second best-selling studio album, surpassed in sales only by their debut. Denouncing "Love Her Madly" as "cocktail lounge music", he quit and handed the production to Bruce Botnick and the Doors.

The title track and two singles " Love Her Madly " and " Riders on the Storm " remain mainstays of rock radio programming, [95] with the last of these being inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame for its special significance to recorded music. In the song "L. Woman", Jim Morrison makes an anagram of his name to chant "Mr. Mojo Risin". As far as is known, this is the last clip of the Doors performing with Morrison.

On March 13, , following the recording of L. He had visited the city the previous summer; he was found dead in the bath on July 3, , by Courson. Morrison died at age 27, the same age as several other famous rock stars in the 27 Club. In , Morrison's girlfriend Pamela Courson also died at the age of Woman ' s follow up album, Other Voices , was being planned while Morrison was living in Paris with his girlfriend; the band hoped that he would return to help them complete the album.

The record featured the single "Tightrope Ride", which received some radio airplay. The trio began performing again with additional supporting members on November 12, , at Pershing Municipal Auditorium in Lincoln, Nebraska, followed by shows at Carnegie Hall on November 23, , and the Hollywood Palladium on November 26, The recordings for Full Circle took place a year after Other Voices during the spring of , and the album was released in August For the tours during this period, the Doors enlisted Jack Conrad on bass who had played on several tracks on both Other Voices and Full Circle as well as Bobby Ray Henson on rhythm guitar.

Like Other Voices , Full Circle did perform as well commercially as their previous albums. While Full Circle was notable for adding elements of funk and jazz to the classic Doors sound, [] the band struggled with Manzarek and Krieger leading neither of the post-Morrison albums had reached the Top 10 while all six of their albums with Morrison had.

The third post-Morrison album, An American Prayer , was released in It consisted of the band adding musical backing tracks to previously recorded spoken word performances of Morrison reciting his poetry.

The record was a commercial success, acquiring a platinum certificate. Eddie Vedder filled in on lead vocals, while Don Was played bass. The track was one that Morrison had written and recorded, providing vocals and piano.

The Doors reunited in to perform on VH1's Storytellers. The album features "Woman in the Window", a new song with music and a pre-recorded vocal performance provided by Jim Morrison.

Manzarek and Skrillex had an immediate musical connection. In , the remaining members of the Doors recorded with rapper Tech N9ne for the song "Strange ", appearing on his album Something Else , which features new instrumentation by the band and samples of Jim Morrison's vocals from the song " Strange Days ". That day would have been Ray's 76th birthday. After Morrison died in , Krieger and Densmore formed the Butts Band as a consequence of trying to find a new lead singer to replace Morrison.

The Butts Band formed in , signing with Blue Thumb records. They began working on their first album titled Butts Band that was released the same year. They disbanded in after the second album. Phil Chen, who played bass on the band's second album, would later join Robby once again with Manzarek—Krieger. Manzarek made three solo albums from to and formed a band called Nite City in , which released two albums from to Krieger released six solo albums from to In recent years Densmore formed a jazz band called Tribaljazz and they released a self-titled album in After legal battles over use of the Doors name with drummer John Densmore in February who filed an injunction against his former bandmates, they changed their name several times and ultimately toured under the name " Manzarek—Krieger " or "Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger of the Doors".

In July , John Densmore said he refused to play with the band unless it was fronted by Eddie Vedder because Densmore claimed Vedder was on Morrison's singing level. On May 20, , Ray Manzarek died at a hospital in Rosenheim, Germany, at the age of 74 due to complications related to bile duct cancer.

Beginning in the late s, there was a sustained revival of interest in the Doors which created a new generation of fans. The origin of the revival is traced to the release of the album An American Prayer in late which contained a live version of " Roadhouse Blues " that received considerable airplay on album-oriented rock radio stations. In the song " The End " was featured in dramatic fashion in the film Apocalypse Now , [] [] and the next year the best-selling biography of Morrison, No One Here Gets Out Alive , was published.

The Doors' first album, The Doors , re-entered the Billboard album chart in September and Elektra Records reported the Doors' albums were selling better than in any year since their original release. The album peaked at No.

The revival continued in with the release of Alive, She Cried , an album of previously unreleased live recordings. The track " Gloria " reached No. A second revival, attracting another generation of fans, occurred in following the release of the film The Doors , directed by Oliver Stone and starring Val Kilmer as Morrison. Stone created the script from over a hundred interviews of people who were in Jim Morrison's life.

He designed the movie by picking the songs and then adding the appropriate scripts to them. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

American rock band. This article is about the band. I think that this version is what Bruce Botnick would have done in had he had today's technology available to him. This album is a must-have. I had the greatest hits of the Doors but when my local classic FM station plays songs like Soul Kitchen and I can't find them on the greatest hits, I realize that I have to have the original album.

Yes, you'll read how this album has been remastered and it doesn't sound the same as the original vinyl recording but so what? You can finally hear what Morrison says about his girlfriend in "Break on Through" it was censored in the original recording. People tell me that no one buys CD's anymore. I have no interest in MP3 files.

The quality is awful. Give me a CD any day. The sacrifice of using MP3 files for their portability it not worth the crappy quality. This the Doors' debut album is very nicely remastered.

Besides the sound, one of the first things I noticed different was the words in "Break on Through". On the original Jim sings, "She gets They are interesting, but I prefer the original cuts. If your a doors fan buy this remastered album. But I can really hear the difference here, really, not like all my other remastered CD's. Also you get more artwork then in previous copies including the LP and I get printed lyrics to. It's like a little book with a story about the doors that I can read while I listen to the CD kicked back in my easy chair.

I was so exhilarated I bought all 6 new CD's. And they all are the same remaster job, perfect. They all should learn a lesson from this remastering. So I give this a perfect score for the material and the remastering. I figured you already knew the bonus tracks are a bonus to. Amazon is the way to buy. I get the CD with the Artwork of some album you can't find anywhere around town for starters.

I download it on my computer, make a copy for my MP3 player, make a copy for the car and put this copy in my collection for my house system. All at a competitive price. Love it!!! A few extra surprises and the original ending to "The End" make this a classic once again!

This was the first album I ever bought. A relatively unknown group at the time and the only recognizable song was Light My Fire. I still have that same album over 40 years later, but thought I might finally upgrade to the cd format. This cd brings back a lot of childhood memories for this old fossil.

It still sounds as good now as it did way back then. See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. An album I used to have on vinyl, and wanted, no desired to have in my possession once again. In many ways their best album, from "Break On Through", onwards it's a vital band setting out their wares, the dark joys of love and passion.

That was locked. But the studio was open and the red lights were on. Manzarek recalled the story slightly differently. In his memoir, Light My Fire , he claims that Morrison began ranting about a fire while being driven home from the studio by his girlfriend, Pamela Courson. He was so persistent that Courson reluctantly returned to the studio, and Morrison immediately bounded over the fence.

The following day, a single boot, belonging to Morrison, was found among the destruction. No reason to call the police. We all knew right away what had happened. Come on, really? Elektra head Jac Holzman immediately cut a very large check to studio owner Tutti Camarata. The Doors used a secret bass player in the studio — Wrecking Crew session legend and future Bread member Larry Knetchel.

The role originally fell to him out of necessity when the band first began to coalesce. Then we auditioned another bass player and we sounded like the Animals. He quietly hired Larry Knechtel, of the ubiquitous gang of Los Angeles session players known as the Wrecking Crew, to thicken the sound.

The medium had traditionally been used to push films, food, cigarettes and a host of other products, and this was the first time a rock band would appear on one. He was right, giving birth to a whole new field of artist promotion. Rock billboards would soon dot the Strip and beyond. According to Densmore, the extravagance earned the band some good-natured ribbing. Jim Morrison falsely claimed that his parents were dead in the press bio that accompanied the album.

The 40th anniversary mix of the debut album presents a stereo version of "Light My Fire" in speed-corrected form for the first time. This 50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition contains the original stereo mix including "Light My Fire" in its original incorrect speed and the original mono mix, both available for the first time in remastered form.

In a contemporary review for Crawdaddy! Williams added: "The birth of the group is in this album, and it's as good as anything in rock. The awesome fact about the Doors is that they will improve. Robert Christgau was less enthusiastic in his column for Esquire , recommending the album but with reservations; he approved of Manzarek's organ playing and Morrison's "flexible though sometimes faint" singing while highlighting the presence of a "great hard rock original" in " Break on Through " and clever songs such as "Twentieth Century Fox", but was critical of more "esoteric" material such as the "long, obscure dirge" " The End ".

The Doors has since been frequently ranked by critics as one of the greatest albums of all time; according to Acclaimed Music , it is the 27th most ranked record on all-time lists.
